The Iowa Photo: A fond farewell
Gazette photojournalist Andy Abeyta chose the lake -- “the most peaceful space in the Corridor“ -- for his last Iowa Photo feature. He has accepted a job in California that puts him closer to family members, who, he says, never quit asking him when he was moving back after he accepted a six-month internship with The Gazette in 2015.
“I could get into all sorts of feelings about leaving, but instead I’ll just say how much I will miss these lakes,” he says. “In any of the four (or five) seasons of the year, I’ve found it to be such a joy, whether it be summer kayaking with friends, watching ice fishermen brave the cold of winter, taking my first hike of the year in the spring or, my favorite, wandering through the beautiful fall colors. It will be a part of every visit I make back to Iowa.” Farewell, Andy. We will miss you, your cheerfulness and your unflagging ability to always get the money shot.
