Elements align for artistic image at boys’ state basketball tournament

The elements for a nice photograph were in my favor as North Linn's Mason Bechen (21) fist bumped teammate Ty Pflughaupt (23) during player introductions March 10 at the Lynx's Class 1A championship game against the Grand View Christian Thunder at the boys’ state basketball tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The dramatic spot lighting pretty much eliminated the distracting background and created more of an abstract pattern on the players lined in a row. The mirror-like, polished floor is what elevates the photo to an artistic level. I was able to remove the guesswork out of framing such a low-angle photo thanks to the flip-out screen of my camera. I only had to tilt the camera up slightly and tap on the screen to both focus and take the photo.
