The Nguyen family of California enjoyed the snow outside their home in Cedar Rapids on Thursday. The family primarily lives in California but visits Iowa several times a year.

Thanh Nguyen, of California, helps his daughter, Avery, 5, make a snowball from the wet, heavy snow that fell Thursday afternoon. Five Eastern Iowa counties — Linn, Johnson, Keokuk, Washington and the southern half of Benton County — were under a winter storm advisory until 6 p.m. Thursday, with snowfall of 1 to 2 inches reported.
