Morrison Park in Coralville on Saturday. Coralville Fire Department training Captain Spencer Culver said the training is important because they need to know when to call for a medical helicopter. “Particularly on the interstate. Say there’s a 20-car pile-up, traffic is backed up, and you can’t get a ground ambulance in or out in a quick period of time. If we get the area to land and work safely around a helicopter, that’ll help us get them on scene faster and the patient to the hospital,” Culver said. (Elizabeth Wood/The Gazette)

With all of our volunteers, they bring a different perspective to the department. We have people who work in construction, people who are electricians, and helicopter nurses. Having him be able to do this, we are really happy he has this opportunity,” Culver said. (Elizabeth Wood/The Gazette)
