AniMeals, whose routes through Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha and Marion have long been dubbed “Meals on Wheels for pets,” is now joining forces with Horizons Family Services -- the local provider of Meals on Wheels for humans for 65 years.

Animal rescue staff and volunteers last week removed 49 dogs from a property near Riverside where the Washington County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on suspicion that the owner had violated animal care laws. Seventeen dead dogs were found.
