An evening of lectures will commemorate and celebrate the complicated history of the Amana Colonies during World War I. This free event serves to share Amana's heritage within the framework of its American homeland. Schedule: 5 p.m., 'The Demise of German-Iowan Newspapers During World War I,” by Glenn Ehrstine, University of Iowa professor of German; 6 p.m., Commemorative Picnic, $10; 7 p.m., 'Over Here, Over There: World War I Propaganda,” by Ranelle Knight-Lueth, assistant professor of art history and director of galleries & collections at Coe College.
