Urban Deer Hunt - September 17, 2011 to January 15, 2012

The City of Cedar Rapids will continue its annual Urban Deer Hunt for the 2011-2012 season as authorized by City Council Resolution # 0762-09-07.  The Urban Deer Hunt is scheduled for September 17, 2011 through January 15, 2012.  Captain Jason Andrews, program administrator, will issue hunting permits upon completion of the following:

  • Attendance at an eight-hour Iowa Bow Hunter's Safety Course. (one-time only)

  • Completion of an Urban Deer Management application available at Dick's Sporting Goods, Gander Mountain, Palo Outdoors, Affinity Archery, Central Fire Station (1010 1st Street NW) or on the City's Web site.

  • Complete an annual proficiency certification test at Palo Outdoors, 1204 1st Street, Palo or Affinity Archery, 711 Center Point Road NE, Cedar Rapids.  The proficiency certification test must be taken at the location that the hunter attends the orientation session.  The proficiency test should be completed prior to the orientation session.

  • Mandatory attendance at the Urban Deer Hunt Rules and Regulations Class (only one class required) at Palo Outdoors, 1204 1st Street, Palo or Affinity Archery, 711 Center Point Road NE, Cedar Rapids.

    Orientation session dates are:

    * Thursday, August 25th - 6:00-7:30 PM - Palo Outdoors

    * Thursday, September 1st - 6:00-7:30 PM - Affinity Archery

    * Saturday, September 10th - 9:00-10:30 AM - Palo Outdoors

    * Wednesday, September 14th - 6:00-7:30 PM - Affinity Archery

    * Saturday, September 24th - 9:00-10:30 AM - Palo Outdoors

    • Hunting permits will be issued at the end of the Urban Deer Hunt Rules and Regulations class, provided all items have been completed.  For complete information, visit the City's Web site at www.cedar-rapids.org/fire.
