Spectacular Return of Bald Eagles to the Cedar River at the Roller Dam in Cedar Rapids,Ia
Craig Augustine
Feb. 3, 2011 8:44 pm
After a disappointing number of eagles last winter the eagles have returned in great numbers from Cargill to beyond the roller dam in Cedar Rapids,Ia.
I counted 100+ eagles on the Old River Rd on Wednesday February 2nd, from just below the Union Pacific railroad bridge to where the road turns away from the river.
At 9:45 their feeding frenzy was in full swing, with 20 to 30 birds in the air at a time while others perched in the trees on both the west and east side of the river.
Included were many young eagles, that have not fully matured to the white head and tail that make the adult eagles one of the most easily recognized bird and a proud symbol of our Country.
If you enjoy eagle watching, you will not be disappointed this year.
