Purple martin workshop on March 12

A workshop on attracting purple martins, the only songbird that relies totally on people for housing, will be held at 9:10 a.m. March 12 at the CAM Iowa Clothing Center, 1005 Nutmeg Ave. near Kalona.
Dick Russell of Farmington, Mo., will discuss “Martins and Their Lifestyles” in the featured presentation at 1 p.m. Following a nest change demonstration at 1:50 p.m., a panel of veteran martin landlords will answer questions starting at 2 p.m.
Morning presentations include “Invasive Species of Iowa,” by David Wehde of the Johnson County Conservation Department; “Iowa Breeding Bird Atlas – Round II,” by Billy Reiter-Marolf of Boone; and “Creating Habitat for Birds” by Ivan Ray Miller of Jamesport, Mo.
Registration is $2; ages 10 and under will be admitted free.
