Brad Freidhof
May. 3, 2011 12:04 pm
On May 4th, North Central Junior High 7th graders will participate in our 5th annual community service day. Over 200 students and volunteers will be working in the community to protect and improve the quality of our land and water. This event includes speakers on the importance of our land and water resources to help to raise awareness and educate these young people about how their actions impact our world. Students and volunteers will be spread through the Coralville and North Liberty communities doing earth-conscious activities like tree mulching, underbrush clearing, and water testing in Muddy Creek. This day creates a connection between our youth and their local environment fostering a community spirit unique to this type of activity. This event is made possible through a partnership between students, volunteers, Iowa City Community School District, the Vest Family, the Optimist Club of North Liberty, the DNR, the cities of North Liberty, Coralville, Iowa City, and the following businesses: Forever Green, Greenwise Lawn Care, JM Swank, Bruegger's Bagels, McDonald's, University of Iowa Community Credit Union, Target, Liberty Bank, Robert's Dairy, True Value of North Liberty, and Panchero's.
