Mother's Day Birdwatching at Hickory Hill Park

About 25 birders along with three leaders took part in the Iowa City Bird Club's Beginning Birder trip to Hickory Hill Park. We saw 51 species of birds and 12 species of warblers. The three leaders spread themselves out along the line of birders and most everyone saw almost every birds. Especially satisfying were hear a Wood Thrush singing, and having great looks at Blackburnian and Bay-breasted Warblers.
The list for our 2 hour walk included: Wild Turkey, Turkey Vulture, Cooper's Hawk, Mourning Dove, Barred Owl, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Downy Woodpecker, Least Flycatcher, Great Crested Flycatcher, Yellow-throated Vireo, Blue-headed Vireo, Blue Jay, American Crow, Barn Swallow, Black-capped Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, White-breasted Nuthatch, House Wren, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Eastern Bluebird, Veery, Wood Thrush, American Robin, Gray Catbird, Brown Thrasher, European Starling, Nashville Warbler, Northern Parula, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, Palm Warbler, Bay-breasted Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, American Redstart, Ovenbird, Common Yellowthroat, Scarlet Tanager, Chipping Sparrow, Field Sparrow, Song Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, Northern Cardinal, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Brown-headed Cowbird, Baltimore Oriole, and House Sparrow.
