FREE FISHING CLINIC TO BE HELD AT F.W. KENT PARK LAKE
Across the State of Iowa June 3-5, anglers will be taking part in Iowa's annual Free Fishing Weekend. In the Johnson County area, residents can join the Johnson County Conservation Board (JCCB) for a free fishing clinic at F.W. Kent Park Lake.
“You don't have to be a seasoned angler or spend a lot of money for the entire family to have fun fishing together,” said Johnson County Naturalist Brad Freidhof. “ The Free Fishing Weekend in Iowa, June 3-5, is a golden opportunity for anyone to try and catch a fish.”
During Free Fishing Weekend, residents across the state are not required to have a fishing license, although all other laws and regulations are still in effect.
The JCCB will be celebrating Free Fishing Weekend with a fishing clinic for the entire family on Saturday, June 4th, from 4-6 p.m., at F.W. Kent Park Lake boat ramp.
“Fishing is a great activity,” stated Freidhof, “and there are great events planned throughout Johnson County including a fishing derby in Coralville at S.T. Morrison Park, in addition to the events to be held at F.W. Kent Park that evening” “If folks can't find a place to participate in a great fishing activity they just aren't looking.”
Bait, tackle and a limited number of rods and reels will be available for participants to use at the event. The Johnson County Conservation Department also manages a beautiful campground at F.W. Kent Park that residents are encouraged to use. Electrical sites are available for $15 a night and non-electrical sites are available for $10 a night. A new playground makes this campground a close to home weekend retreat. Make June 3-5 an exciting family weekend get away at F.W. Kent Park and learn more about the exciting opportunities that our natural resources can provide.
F.W. Kent Park is home to a 27 acre lake stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill and channel catfish and three 1-2 acre ponds in the easterly valley which are sure to provide anglers with hot summer fishing action.
