The Johnson County Conservation Board (JCCB) will open the Kent Park Campground for the 2011 Camping Season, Friday, April 29. Camping is available on a first-come-first-served basis only.
The second phase of an upgrade of the campground, which included expansion and leveling of the individual sites, installation of 20-30-50 Amp electric service and wireless internet is nearing completion. Several of the campsites in the center loop will be closed for a short time, this spring, to allow a new seeding to become fully established.
The campsites in the south loop, which were upgraded last year, will be open for use along with the non-electric campsites in the north loop of the campground.
“This temporary inconvenience will be well worth the wait.” said Harry Graves Conservation Director.
Camping fees remain at $15.00 per night for an electric site and $10.00 per night for non-electric sites. Use of the shower house and sanitary dump station is included in these prices.
Kent Park is 1,082- acre gem with ten miles of hiking trails. Fishing is a popular activity in the well-stocked 27-acre lake and three 2-acre ponds. Six picnic shelters, three of which can be reserved, along with picnic grounds, playground equipment, prairie interpretive pavilion, Conservation Education Center and Youth Group Camp are popular attractions. Natural features including prairies, wetlands and woodlands offer diverse recreational opportunities.
