Deer hunters interested in having large antlers measured should bring them to the Department of Natural Resources Southeast District Office on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 16 and 17.
The office is in Lake Darling State Park, three miles west of Brighton on State Highway 1 and 78. Scoring will be done from 1 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 16 and 4 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 17.
Appointments will be honored until 4:20 p.m. by calling 319-694-2430. Otherwise, measurements will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Allow 20 minutes for each antler set to be measured.
One of the scorers, Donald Pfeiffer, is an official measurer for Iowa Trophy Deer, Boone and Crocket Club and Pope and Young Club. Hunters may elect to enter one or more classifications depending on the method of kill and the final score. Both the measurement service and entry into the Iowa Trophy Deer Records are free.
Pfeiffer urges hunters to get antlers measured whether they are recently killed animals or the old set in the attic.
