Oxford, IA – The Conservation Education Center (CEC) in F.W. Kent Park, located three miles west of Tiffin just off of highway 6, will be open weekends 12 to 4 p.m. beginning May 28th and continuing through Labor Day. The Education Center will also be open Memorial Day, Monday May 30th, from Noon to 4 p.m.
The CEC hosts twelve exhibits, designed by Will Thomson, Iowa City, include a prairie diorama, a cross section of a 200 year old oak with a timeline of events that occurred during its life, a crawl-through log, a bird and wildlife viewing station, a small live animal display featuring some of the reptiles and amphibians that inhabit the park and an aquarium featuring representative fish from Kent Park Lake.
This year the Conservation Education Center is also featuring photos taken by local Wildlife Photographer Wilber Suiter of Oxford. The photos highlight a variety of wildlife species including whitetail deer, song birds and raptors. “Wilber does an amazing job of capturing wildlife in their habitats with great detail and clarity,” stated naturalist Brad Freidhof.
Whether you want to view the exhibits or enjoy some great wildlife photography the Johnson County Conservation Education Center has it all. Stop in and take a look, then go enjoy a walk or a picnic at F.W. Kent Park.
