Jackson County Conservation, in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources, will host a boat education certification course on Thursday, June 9, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 11, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bellevue City Hall in Bellevue.
Interested parties are welcome to sign up to attend. It will cover general information concerning boats and maintenance, navigation rules, boat safety, laws and regulations, as well as tips on how to be a courteous boat operator.
Iowa law mandates that any person 12 to 17 years old, who will operate a motorboat over 10 horsepower or personal watercraft (PWC), must be certified in a boat education course.
Those age 12 to 17 must attend at least 10 hours of boat education training and the cost is $5 for the certification card.
To register for this class, go to www.iowadnr.gov/training. Registration is mandatory by May 25. For more information, call (563)-652-3783.
