The front-page story of The Gazette July 3 (“Iowa pumping breaks on rising traffic deaths”) is about traffic deaths and speeding on Iowa roads. The article describes the next three months as the deadliest of the year.
So why would our governor think this is a perfect time to send state troopers to the southern border? We’ve already read about the shortage of troopers in the state and the vast amount of territory they have to cover. We also just learned this week that our state doesn’t have the money to supply them with body cameras, but I’m sure we are paying for their transportation and lodging at the border. At least I hope so, for their sake.
