Tamara Marcus, City Council candidate in District 3, embodies authentic care for the Cedar Rapids community, a wealth of knowledge, and commitment to service and sincere social action. A Cedar Rapids native, Tamara graduated from Kennedy High School and is accomplished in her academic and professional work on climate. She received several fellowships, and a Fulbright Scholarship, which allowed her to conduct climate research in the Himalayas. Tamara is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Natural Resources and Earth System Sciences program at the University of New Hampshire, while also working as Linn County’s first sustainability program manager.
Tamara’s accomplishments are impressive as a climate scientist, and as a humble, disciplined force for action, as demonstrated with her leadership in Advocates for Social Justice (ASJ), a group noted for its creativity, conscientiousness, and concern for the public good, who held the city accountable to establish an independent citizen review board. Tamara’s local roots, paired with her broad and varied background across many cultures, nations, and experiences make her voice important to the Cedar Rapids community. She has chosen to return to Cedar Rapids and invest her time, talent, and energy into our community.
Tamara outlines 3 areas of focus on her campaign website: www.marcusforcr.com: disaster recovery, promoting green jobs and training opportunities, and cultivating community-driven reform. We encourage you to learn more and support Tamara Marcus for District 3.
