Reynolds pursues mean-spirited immigration policies

“Stupid is as stupid does,” says Forrest Gump, to which we can add “Heartless is as heartless does.” I do not attribute stupidity and heartlessness to people. Mean-spirited policy and politics are my focus. Whether policies reflect the people who propose them is something I’ll leave up to others to judge.
Heartless, however, is what Gov. Kim Reynolds has done in her two recent scrapes with immigrant refugees in Iowa. True to her grasp of Iowa “slights,” in episode one in April of this year, she said a firm “No” to accepting refugee children, contrasting starkly with her willingness to accept refugees coming into the United States when then-President Donald Trump raised the issue in 2019.
In episode two of Iowa “snipes.” The Gazette reported on June 12 that the governor believed “potentially” two of nineteen children brought to the state on a controversial federal refugee settlement flight stayed in Iowa. Horror of horrors! Look, we know what it’s all about. Smite Biden. And do it standing on the heads of two innocent kids, likely sponsored by truly generous “Iowa nice” citizens.
