Letter: Kudos for encouraging voting

Kudos to the village of Hiawatha for their support of a 'get out the vote” effort. Absentee ballot request forms at city hall were filled out and delivered to the county. On Election Day, a phone call to city hall will generate a volunteer driver for those who would otherwise not be able to vote.
Hiawatha's City Council, mayor and staff know that to call ourselves a democracy, we need an informed population and participation in the electoral process. Again, kudos to Hiawatha leaders for not just encouraging voting, but doing something(s) to help people do just that. It does take a village.
