How do we love one another?

I’m writing to respond to a letter published on Aug. 1 titled 'Love one another, just as I have loved you' by Frederik Norberg of Iowa City. Mr. Norberg referenced six examples from the Holy Bible that admonish us to love one another and claimed to identify as a Democrat because he believes in the Bible. I'm going to speculate that this is due to the social programs supported by his party.
I am in no way questioning those Scripture references. I embrace those truths with my whole heart. What I'm questioning is why one might choose to embrace government-controlled distribution of wealth based on God's commandment to love one another. I am not seeing in Mr. Norberg's biblical references where God is commanding us to love one another through taxation and government-run social programs. I believe God wants us to share our wealth because our hearts are turned to Him and to our neighbor. When I share out of my abundance, I make a difference in someone's life. What's really heartwarming to me is that a change has not only made in someone else's life but in my life as well because I turned my heart to both God and my neighbor through my giving. It's a win-win in God's eyes, and it's what I believe to be the intended purpose of HIs commandment to love one another.
