History tells the tale in Afghanistan

Afghanistan, located smack-dab between the east and west, has been repeatedly attacked throughout history, always without success. The English tried to invade and control this country. The Russians then followed suit, pursuing a long war. Neither succeeded. You’d think history would be telling.
After the 9/11 attack in 2001, Republican President George W. Bush quickly responded by declaring war on Afghanistan. This horrific 20-year war has left numerous civilians killed along with many military personnel. And, on the false report that Iraq had ‘weapons of mass destruction’ (none of which were ever found) Bush also sent our troops into Iraq. Eventually, Democratic President Barack Obama was able to locate and kill Osama bin Laden, whom they found living with his family in Pakistan.
In 2014, Obama ended our major combat operations in Afghanistan, leaving only support and training personnel. Then Republican President Donald Trump promised to bring all our troops home from Afghanistan. President Joe Biden set Sept. 11 (20-year anniversary from 9/11) as the deadline for removal of all our troops from Afghanistan.
Now criticism of Biden abounds. Yet he’s the only president in the last 20 years who’s had the backbone to cease this never-ending war.
