Hinson should have supported Cheney, not lies

U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson backed a move this week to remove Rep. Liz Cheney from her leadership role in the House after Cheney called out fellow Republicans for spreading lies about the 2020 presidential election. Hinson has said her decision centers around the idea that the Republican Party must be united to win the majority in the House of Representatives in 2022. This disingenuous statement shows 1st District constituents that her beliefs and actions depend on which direction the political winds are blowing. Hinson is making a conscious choice to embrace a twice-impeached former one-term president who incited an insurrection that threatened the peaceful transfer of power on Jan. 6.
Instead, Hinson should be supporting Cheney and the establishment of a bipartisan commission to find out the facts of what took place on Jan. 6. She should be working to rid her party of the lies and disinformation that make up its core beliefs. She should stop appearing on Newsmax, sending out fundraising tweets and posts made up of bad faith arguments. This latest action has shown us that Hinson would prefer to sacrifice her integrity and oath to the Constitution in favor of embracing the “Big Lie” and the personality cult of Donald Trump.
