Grassley is not keeping up

Despite the anodyne headline (“Grassley, 87, shows voters he’s keeping up,” July 12), Sen. Chuck Grassley is not in fact keeping up, and hasn’t done so as someone who purports to represent all of Iowa. The final quote in Monday’s article might as well have been about him. No one can tell Grassley what to do, and he wouldn’t listen even if you did.
Sen. Grassley is deflective in his correspondence and demeaning in person. Having spent my own money to visit him in D.C. a couple years ago — as he refuses to hold public town halls in Johnson County — he was dismissive to my concerns and unceremoniously booted my family and I from his office when it became clear he wasn’t sitting with a sycophant. His retirement can’t come soon enough.
