It is a privilege to be an American citizen. Because no matter what political party is in office, I know my rights and freedom will always remain intact. Even on 9/11 our democratic way of life wasn't threatened because President George W. Bush was still in control.
One thing all of our presidents share in common is their total commitment to democracy by upholding the Constitution, our rule of law. Everyone knows that America wasn't meant to be a dictatorship. Our Constitution forbids it.
Its basic structure was created so that no one person would ever have total control. That explains the reason for the three branches of government. Even when Donald Trump was elected, I knew his governing style would be more autocratic because of his background. I knew he would find it difficult to give up authority to anyone, but I thought he would live up to his oath of office and defend our Constitution. I was wrong. I expected him to do something he is not capable of doing. Instead, Trump refused to accept the results of the election to keep himself in the Oval Office.
There's no retirement age for speaking the truth. Here are some truths. The pillar of our democracy is the peaceful transition of power. Our democracy was meant to be handed down from one generation to another. Don't be so foolish to think our democracy is so guarded that it can't be toppled.
