' We've heard complaints that sidewalk cafes and other structures have started crowding foot traffic in downtown Iowa City. Iowa City residents, has that been a problem for you? Residents of other towns, how pedestrian-friendly are your city streets?
FROM OUR INBOX
I live downtown and walk to work every day. I absolutely love the sidewalk cafes. The more the merrier.

' John D.: You would need foot traffic before a sidewalk cafe could 'get in the way”. Having said that, I think it's amazing what sidewalk cafes can do for the ambience and vibrancy of a city. Riverfront cafes even more so. We have this great resource flowing through downtown and all we want to do is line it with high-rises that block the view for everyone else.
' Tim K.: Do people not have enough to complain about? Sidewalk cafes are fine. Walk around them if it bothers you so much.
' Zach N.: I enjoy watching people walking their dogs near them.
' Valorie M.: Burnham I love them!!
' Kim A.: Yes please! We need to encourage a community where we can get outside and GET MOVING! Walking from place to place instead of driving everywhere is a great idea, even though most will probably drive to the initial starting spot on their walkabout.
