' It's been six months since state lawmakers raised the gas tax by 10 cents per gallon. Since then, have you noticed any effects of the increase?
FROM FACEBOOOK
Billie M.: We are all lucky that oil prices are down. Many of us are seeing prices at the pump for around $2.29, just think, if we didn't have the 10 cent tax slapped on that, we would be just over $2 a gal, that would be fantastic! My husband and I still only have a certain amount money in the budget for gas, obviously we can go more when the prices are low. People will notice that extra 10 cents, if and when the oil prices rise again, then they will complain.
Dennis H.: I think we are so used to the 'just tax more” mentality most do not pay attention enough to know if the tax works or not.
Sean W.: The Hy-Vee Fuel Saver program helps counter balance it.
Tom K.: Hwy 13 from the Linn/Delaware line to Central City is FINALLY getting ground smooth. Can't say for sure that it's due to the tax, but the last time I had a conversation with the IDOT nothing was supposed to happen for 2 years? Don't care, as long as it's getting done.
John S.: Haven't seen anything done to the highway that I drive and it could use an overlay, pretty rough some lines still not painted yet.
Sherri B.: I think society has excepted every excuse under the sun why our gas prices gouge us. Some of us try to curb our habits, some don't.
Timothy R.: Have we fixed any highway's or bridges yet?
Heather H.: Yeah, I commute from Dubuque to Madison. I just make sure I fill up there as it's usually 15 cents cheaper now. Dumb.
Bill S.: Gas still is about $1 higher than it actually should be!
Danielle W.: Big deal 15 gallon tank and you pay a whopping $1.50 more who cares
Jeff C.: I drive as little as possible, take my motorcycle when I can to save on fuel costs. The whole thing's a joke. Oil is I believe under $50/barrel and gas still is over $2/gallon. Taxes, price gouging and collusion to keep the price inflated during summer.
Al C.: Gas is cheaper in Missouri now.
Matt T.: It will change my voting habits.
Jeff R.: My habits haven't changed. I did purchase a new car recently and mileage was an important feature but I think anyone would look for good mileage in a vehicle regardless of the fuel market. Gas is a pretty inelastic market. It's not like butter where I can just switch to margarine - I still need gas for my car, regardless of cost.
Nathan R.: That red diesel is looking more and more appealing.
Caleb R.: Flat tax.
Andrew A.: Time to invest in electric cars. Iowa is becoming mostly wind powered now.
Desarae B.: Perfect timing to move to Missouri. The construction doesn't last half as long here either.
Chandra J.: I haven't noticed a thing, honestly.
