Zumbach, Myron Calvin
Myron Calvin Zumbach of Coggon passed to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.
He was born Sept. 18, 1926, in rural Coggon, the son of Louis and Rose (Messerli) Zumbach. He attended Hazel Green District No. 8 country school east of the home farm and was a 1944 graduate of Buck Creek High School. He pursued a career in farming beginning in the dairy and hog business.
On Dec. 25, 1946, Myron married Carol Mae Caspers at St. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. Together they raised a family and farmed on the same farm in Delaware County all their married life. Myron enjoyed farming and was a progressive farmer, but his true calling was in the beef business. Myron looked forward to cattle buying trips out West, talking with his cattle feeding friends, and driving through his pastures to watch the new calves grazing with their mothers. He fed his cattle twice a day until he was past 80 years old. He was active in the Iowa Cattlemen's Association and was always willing to help and listen to farmers and feeders, young or old.
Peace Lutheran Church was his spiritual home. He valued his church family and has always appreciated their love and support for him and Carol. He served on the church council and held various offices.
Myron has also valued and been very grateful for the nurses and aides at the Good Neighbor Home, where Carol has resided these last nine years. He was a steady presence there at Carol's side and was a favorite with the staff. He felt safe and well loved during his last days there, close to Carol and surrounded by family, friends, and the caring staff.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Carol Zumbach; five children, Myron L. (Betty) of Coggon, Terry (Carmen) of Sackets Harbor, N.Y., Rose (Kent) Bacon of Council Grove, Kan., Calvin (Patty) of Coggon and Kevin (Cheryl) of Dubuque; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Velma Zumbach and Marlene Zumbach, both of Monticello, and Lorna Messerli of Boone; and brothers-in-law, Don Caspers of Cedar Rapids and Duane Caspers (Anna) of Lisbon.
Myron was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Arianna Zumbach; and three brothers, Louis R., Elmer and Laverne Zumbach.
