Zuber, Mary 'Mae' Alta

Mary “Mae” Alta Zuber died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at the Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg, at the age of 98 years.

She is survived by four sons, Harlan (Marilyn) Zuber of Williamsburg, Verlyn (Mary) Zuber of Belle Plaine, Sylvan Zuber of Cedar Rapids, and Darrell (Beth Tait) Zuber of Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Zuber of Phoenix, Ariz.; 26 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Vernon Vercande of Marengo; and two sisters, Jean Disterhoft of California and Lenora Benest of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Esra; two daughters, Mary Marlene Erue Monaghan and Ailene Ann Long Northrup; a son, Jerome Zuber; two sisters, Irene Vercande and Anna Kruse; two brothers, Cloyd and Pat Vercande; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Williamsburg. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Williamsburg. There will be a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
