Dorothy is survived by her son, Robert (Mary) of Middle Amana; two daughters, Kathy Schwarting (Bob) of Middle Amana and Carol Ann Vogt (John) of Marengo; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Schuerer (George) of Amana; sister-in-law, Connie Zuber, and stepsister-in-law, Louise Zuber, both of Amana; and stepbrother-in-law, Jack Zuber (Waunita) of Hiawatha.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1976; a brother, Bill Zuber; a sister, Margaret at age 2; and a grandson, Christopher Vogt in 2010.
Dorothy Marie Zuber was born April 20, 1917, in Middle Amana, Iowa, the daughter of William Carl and Emilie (Murbach) Zuber. She received her education in the Amana schools, and went to work at the Amana Woolen Mill. Dorothy married William Henry Zuber on June 11, 1938, at the Middle Amana Church. They moved into the family home and resided there for their entire life. Dorothy also helped her husband at the Middle Amana General Store. Later, she became a cook for her brother, Bill Zuber, at “the Dugout” in Homestead, and became well-known for her delicious cooking. She retired from there at the age of 83.
She enjoyed music, reading, and crossword puzzles. She loved gardening, baking, cooking, and “Dean Martin.” She was a member of the Amana Church Society.
Dorothy's family was so very important to her and she cherished the time she spent with them, especially cooking big meals on Thursday nights for them. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her and knew her.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf House of Hospice of Mercy for the loving care of our mother and grandmother.
