Zmolek, Frank J.
Frank J. Zmolek, 93, of Tama, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery, rural Toledo. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama, where there will be a vigil service and rosary at 7 p.m.
Frank was born June 23, 1916, on a farm northeast of Toledo, Iowa, the son of Frank and Agnes (Dvorak) Zmolek. After his father died in 1923, they moved to the Elberon and Vining area. In 1937, he moved back to the place he was born and farmed there until 1947. Frank then bought his own farm northeast of Tama, where he farmed until he retired in Tama. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama and KD Lodge.
Frank enjoyed getting together with his friends and playing accordion, as well, as at nursing homes. He loved fishing in his younger years and liked joking around with people. Frank liked to tell stories with his nieces and nephews and very much enjoyed spending time with them at family gatherings.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Agnes Dostal and Blanche Upah; one brother, Charles Zmolek; two brothers in infancy; and two nephews.
Survivors include one brother, Pete (Geraldine) Zmolek of Toledo; and 26 nieces and nephews and their families.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Tama.
