Zimmerman, Minnie Anna Marie
Minnie Anna Marie Zimmerman, 93, a resident of the Anamosa Care Center died there Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009. Celebration of life service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 201 N. Ford St., Anamosa. The Cremation Society of Eastern, Central and Western Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Larry J. (Karen) Zimmerman of Indianapolis, Ind.; her grandchildren, Nathan (Tamara) Christensen of Lake Villa, Ill., Brent (Deanne Dao) Christensen of El Salvador, Dietrich Zimmerman of Lexington Ky., and Alice Zimmerman of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Amelia Christensen.
Also surviving are two sisters, Lucille Zimmerman and Elnora Day, both of Anamosa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, August Zimmerman; and a daughter, Janet Christensen.
Minnie was born Dec. 15, 1915, the daughter of John and Catherina Neunabor Heiken. She was born on a farm five miles east of Anamosa in the Jackson Township. During the depression the Heikens moved to a acreage at Newport. She married August Dietrich Zimmerman on June 3, 1936 at St. John Lutheran Church in Olin, Iowa. They lived on the Zimmerman family farm in rural Jones County until 1950. They then moved to a farm near Wyoming, Iowa, and in 1961 moved to Tipton, Iowa. After the death of her husband August in 1969, she moved to Anamosa.
Minnie was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa, and remained a member there. She was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Tipton. She was a homemaker, restaurant and school cook and a well loved baby sitter. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, baking and visiting with family and friends.
Memorials may be given to Camp Courageous of Iowa.
