Zimmerman, Marian L.

Marian L. Zimmerman, 91, formerly of rural Iowa City, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Graveside services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.

Marian was born Dec. 28, 1921, on a farm near Hopkinton, Iowa, to Robert and Nelle (Green) Tharp. She married George B. Zimmerman on April 4, 1951.

She is survived by her children, Rosemary Robinson (Chuck), Joan Arps, George Hospodarsky (Paula), Denver Hospodarsky (Marty), Katherine Hemingway (Lee Roepke), James Zimmerman (Lana) and Donna Zimmerman (Jim Halvorsen); 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Marian loved to trap and fish. She was an active supporter of 4-H programs and an honored member of the Hereford Association. She took pride in baking delicious breads, kolaches, cinnamon rolls and pies for family and friends. Marian's main goal in life was to teach values to her children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.

The twinkle in her eyes, her warm smile and big hugs will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
