Zimmerman, Dr. George Rudolph
AMANA - Dr. George Rudolph Zimmerman, 87, of Burlington, formerly of Iowa City, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at the Great River Medical Klein Center in Burlington. Graveside memorial services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Amana Cemetery, Amana, with Elder Alan Trumpold officiating. In addition, Dr. Ratri Keonin will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Prugh's Funeral Home, Burlington. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements, with assistance from Prugh's Funeral Services, Burlington.
Dr. Zimmerman is survived by his wife, Dr. Ratri B. Keonin M.D.; three sons, Dr. Karl L. Zimmerman D.D.S. (Barbara) of Tucson, Ariz., Dr. Kent G. Zimmerman M.D. (May) of Mesa, Ariz., and Jess K. Zimmerman Ph.D. of Canovanas, Puerto Rico; and a stepdaughter, Niorn K. Nicholas of Overland Park, Kan. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Scott and Kevin Zimmerman, both of Tucson, Ariz., and Alina and Malia Nicholas, both of Overland Park, Kan.; and a sister, Elsie (William) Oehler of Amana.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Louise Oehler and her husband, Orville.
George Rudolph Zimmerman was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Amana, Iowa, the son of Carl H. and Helen Pecher Zimmerman. He graduated from Amana High School and attended the University of Iowa, graduating in 1951 as an M.D. He married Dr. Ratri B. Keonin M.D. on Jan. 6, 1990, in Burlington. Dr. Zimmerman served in the Army Air Force during World War II as a Second Lieutenant and was stationed at Perrin Field, Sherman, Texas.
