Zimmerli, Leoma Hasley Schmidt
Leoma Hasley Schmidt Zimmerli, 99, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, by the Rev. Dennis Juhl. Burial: St. Michael Cemetery, Norway. Friends may visit on Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home from 4 until 8 p.m. Friends may also visit at the church on Wednesday after 9:30 a.m.
Leoma is survived by five daughters, Donna (Marvin) Schneider of Monticello, Joan Holmes of Cedar Rapids, Joyce (Tom) Wheelan of Houston, Texas, Marcia (Donald) Brownell of Clive and Susan Casteel of Des Moines; daughter-in-law, Nancy Schmidt of Solon; 25 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; sister, Maryann (Ivan) Grabe of Swisher; stepson, Lance (Maryann) Zimmerli of Henderson, N.V.; and stepdaughter, Jeanette (Bob) Becker of Cedar Rapids.
Leoma was preceded in death by two husbands, Clifford J. Schmidt Sr. who died March 7, 1977, and Herman O. Zimmerli who died July 26, 1996. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Josephine; a son, Clifford J. Schmidt Jr.; sons-in-law, Bob Holmes and Jim Casteel; four brothers, Eldo, Earl, Harold and Melvin Hasley; two sisters, Velma Maloney and Viola Reynolds; and grandson, Raymond Schneider.
Leoma was born May 19, 1913, in Norway, the daughter of Andrew and Minnie Brecht Hasley. Leoma and Clifford J. Schmidt were united in marriage in Minnesota. After his death, she married H. O. “Zip” Zimmerli in Atlanta, Ga.
Leoma worked at Armstrong's for 25 years, retiring in 1978.
She was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church, the Elks, Armstrong Retirees Club, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, dancing, and trips to the casinos. She was a wonderful baker.
The family would like to thank the staff at Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center for their kind and compassionate care for Leoma over the past years.
