Zerba, Betty A. 'Granny'
Betty A. “Granny” Zerba, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday evening, Nov. 20, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 J St. SW, by the Rev. William Harnish. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, Midway. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
Betty is survived by her children, Wilma Davenport and Rowland Zerba, both of Cedar Rapids; two brothers-in-law, Merwin (Marge) Zerba, Hiawatha, and Lawrence (Pat) Zerba, Independence; sister-in-law, Bertha, Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rowland “Bud” Zerba; parents, Charles and Grace (Van Fossen) Kirk; great-grandson, Robert DeWayne; sister, Alice Sawyer; and brothers, Benjamin Kirk and Wilbur Van Fossen.
Betty was born Nov. 19, 1924, in Cedar Rapids and was a lifelong resident. She married Rowland F. “Bud” Zerba on Aug. 9, 1944, in Galena, Ill. He died May 4, 1998. Betty was employed in the shipping department of Turner Microphone Co. for over 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of New Covenant Bible Church. Betty loved to play bingo, her cats and flowers.
She will be greatly missed by her many family members and friends.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
