Bob was born Sept. 6, 1925, in Iowa City, the son of William F. and Elsie A. (Sass) Zeithamel. He attended University High School in Iowa City. During the Korean conflict, Bob served in the United States Army. Bob was married to Dorothy Krenz; he later married Barbara Treptow on Dec. 20, 1971. He had lived in this area for many years, farming since he was a teenager and working as a rural mail carrier for many years. Following retirement he and Barb moved to Buena Vista, Colo., where they lived until returning to this area.
Bob was known for his love of horses, having been a member of PEROI; this group rode horseback from Iowa City to Des Moines raising money for Camp Sunnyside. He was in the Mounted Patrol of the Johnson County Sheriff's Department for many years, involved in searches, parades and parking for the fair and other functions. Later in life he learned to fly, getting his pilot license at the Leadville, Colo., airport one month before his first social security check! Bob enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, shooting, snow skiing, four wheeling, and so much more, you couldn't keep this man down.
Bob so loved spending time with his friends and family which include his wife, Barbara; son and his wife, Douglas and Sonja Zeithamel of Iowa City; grandsons, Brad Zeithamel and his wife, Marcia, and Tim and his wife, Rachel Zeithamel; and great-grandsons, Adam and Seth Zeithamel.
