Zahradnik, Karla M.
Karla M. Zahradnik, 73, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday afternoon, Aug. 24, 2009, in her home after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church by Pastor Mel Ramos and the Rev. William Harnish. Burial: Czech National Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 J St. SW.
Karla is survived by her husband, Don; her children, Becki Stevens (Mike) of Ashburn, Va., and Dave Zahradnik (Jenny) of Cedar Rapids; stepchildren, Roger Zahradnik (Trish) of Oshkosh, Wis., and Barb Klein (Tom) of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Drew, Lauren, Colin, Julia, Anthony, Dustin, Nicole and Sarah; four great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Jasa (Mitzi) of Edina, Minn.; sister, Venda Jasa of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
Karla was born Feb. 1, 1936, to Pauline and Charles Jasa, and was a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids. She married Donald W. Zahradnik on Oct. 6, 1968, at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. Karla worked at Collins Radio Co., the Cedar Rapids School District and retired from AEGON in 2001 after over 25 years of service.
She was a member of Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church, Hus Quilting Club, the Red Hatters, the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library and the Czech Heritage Singers. Karla was very proud of her Czech heritage.
She enjoyed quilting, gardening, sewing and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Karla will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church, St. Luke's Hospice and the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.
