Yvonne Elizabeth Tunks Elliott, 88, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Center Point, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Northbrook Manor, Cedar Rapids. Service: 3 p.m. Friday, June 3, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Visitation: two hours before the service at the funeral home.
Survivors include daughters, Deborah (Larry) Roberts of Cedar Rapids and Judy (James) Carson of Greenwood, Ind.; grandchildren, Mark (Kristin) Roberts and their children, Miles and Harrison; Leigh (Tom) Drzycimski and their children, Joel, Holly, Julia and Grant; Jeffery (fiancee Melonee) Carson and his children, Kristin and Jackson; and Joshua (Becky) Carson and their children, Jacob and Joey; brother, Gary Tunks of Arizona; and two nieces, Glenda and Jolene.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew, Darrell Tunks.
Yvonne was born Feb. 2, 1928, in Center Point, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Irene (Barnett) Tunks. She worked for Rockwell Collins for 35 years, including working on the Mercury and Apollo projects and got to meet astronaut Scott Carpenter. Yvonne was a member of the Center Point United Methodist Church for all of her life. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist, still playing at church services into her 80s. She was the Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and was involved in the White Shrine, where she played the piano for many years. Yvonne loved dogs, and her little sheltie, Susie, was her beloved companion and friend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Center Point United Methodist Church.
