Yuska, Joanne Antonia
Joanne Antonia Yuska, 77, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at her home under the care of Iowa River Hospice surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at First Presbyterian Church, 100 W. State St., Toledo, with Pastor Dale Bucich officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 8, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama, with an Eastern Star service following at 5 p.m.
Joanne was born July 18, 1936, near Vining, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Bessie (Cecak) Vesely. Joanne attended school in Vining and at Otter Creek No. 8, graduating from Toledo High School in 1954. On Aug. 16, 1956, she was united in marriage to Melvin Yuska at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Joanne worked for The Selective Service and for Farm Bureau as an insurance agent for 29 years, retiring in December 2006. She was on the board of directors for Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Tama County Counsel of Aging and the Tama County Health Advisory Board. She volunteered her time for Senior Health Insurance Information Program and Iowa River Hospice.
Joanne was a member of the Toledo Woman's Club, Order of Eastern Star and the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo, where she served as elder and financial secretary. She enjoyed volunteering, reading, traveling, spending time with her family and was an avid Hawkeye fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband on Feb. 25, 2007.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by one daughter, Debbie (Rick) Burnes of Toledo; three sons, Doug (Connie) Yuska of Toledo, Dale (Bernice) Yuska of Toledo and Danny (Jannae Doran) Yuska of Tama; seven grandchildren, Amy (Brian) Doyle, Andrea (Curt) Graff, Nicki Yuska, Amanda (Dave) Dankbar, Aaron (Brooke) Yuska, Danny Yuska Jr. (Jason Hedden) and Brian (Ashley) Yuska; nine great-grandchildren, Dalton, Kadyn and Bostyn Doyle, Jaden and Madelyn Graff, Kyler and Aniston Yuska, and Paityn and Preston Yuska; one sister, Jeanette Young of Toledo; two brothers, Edward (Bev) Vesely of Toledo and Tony Vesley of Lincoln, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
