Yount, Laura Jane
Laura Jane Yount, 55, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following an extended illness. A celebration of Laura's life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Fellowship Community Church, Palo, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Per her wishes there will be no services or visitation.
Laura was born March 11, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of William Edward Yount Jr. and Jacqueline Redman Yount. She graduated from Kennedy High School in 1976 and attended Mount Mercy College.
Laura is survived by her mother, Jacqueline Yount; five siblings, William Yount III (Linda), Bradley Yount (Connie) and their daughters, Jaycel, Krizzalyn and Mia, Linda Bullene (Scott) and their daughters, Lindsey Evans (Robert) and Caitlin, James Brent Yount (Jill) and Lisa Bertelli (Mark); her great-niece, Maddison Rose Evans; and Laura's dog, Zeus.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Laura had a special gift with children. She loved children and they loved her in return. She had an amazing ability to communicate with troubled teens and gained their respect and trust working in social services for 33 years.
Laura will be remembered for her quick wit and ability to make people laugh. She took much enjoyment of history, reading, furniture refinishing, friends, parties, cross word puzzles, dinning out and her beloved nieces, Lindsey, Caitlin and great- niece, Maddison Evans.
Special thanks to the staff of St. Luke's Hospital and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for the care and compassion shown to Laura and her family during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be in Laura's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or a charity of your choice.
