Youngker, Virginia Bolton Weih
Virginia Bolton Weih Youngker, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Nov. 5, 2013.
“Ginny,” as she preferred to be called, was born April 23, 1921, at her parents' farmhouse north of Tipton, Iowa. Virginia attended Tipton High School and graduated with the class of 1939. For a year after graduating from Cornell College in 1943, she taught grade school music and English in Shellsburg. She then decided to leave the teaching profession and accepted a position in Chicago working in a large bank. In 1945, she married Don Weih and together they farmed for 21 years in Bennett, Iowa, before his career change prompted relocations to Sioux City, Galena, Marion and Iowa City.
Widowed in 1979, Ginny's resilience allowed her to develop and renew many friendships, including that of Charles Youngker of Sun City West, Ariz., whom she married in 1984. Virginia was an active member of PEO chapters HJ (Cedar Rapids), and GD (Sun City West). She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, reading, gardening, traveling, singing, and playing the piano.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Fanny Bolton; her husband, Don Weih (34 years), and her husband, Charles Youngker (24 years).
She is survived by her brother, Duane (Judy) Bolton of Tipton; children, Jeffrey (Phyllis) Weih of Portland, Ore., Susan (Steven) Ovel of Cedar Rapids, Lisa (Dean Jr.) Williams of St. Louis, Mo., and Lori (James) Swift of Edina, Minn. Grandchildren include Chad (Thu) and their children, Vienna and Isabella; Ryan (Dawn) Ovel and their children, Emma, Olivia and Claire; Nathan and Andrea Weih; and Meagan and Alex Swift. Ginny is also survived by stepchildren, Chuck (Virginia) Youngker and Susan (Dave) Truax, both of Phoenix, Ariz., and their families.
Ginny was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids on Friday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to West Music Co., 1398 Twixt Town Rd., Marion, IA 52302, in support of “Music for Mom,” a music therapy service that greatly enriched the quality of Ginny's last few years.
Online condolences may be directed to www.cedarmemorial.com under obituaries.
