Young, Lorraine M.
Lorraine M. Young, 91, of Dubuque, passed peacefully into eternal life Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at home surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Dubuque. Private burial of cremains will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at the church. Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1640 Main St., Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born May 6, 1919, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Leo A. and Elsie (Stuehlmeyer) Link. She married Walter Young on July 1, 1940, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque. He preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 2003. Lorraine was employed for 15 years at Roshek Department Store and then went to work at Coca Cola Co. until she left to care for her parents.
She enjoyed traveling, and swimming at the YMCA, which she did every morning for many years. Lorraine loved elephants from the time she was a young girl, and collected them her whole life. She had many friends who she always lent a helping hand to. She enjoyed spending time with family. She will be remembered by those who knew her as a caring and loving person. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker parish.
Surviving are two sons, Leo (Jan) Young of North Liberty and Thomas (Mary) Young of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Barbara Young of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Robert (Mary) Young, Shawn (Paul) Chastain, Jennifer (Joe) Crosheck, Barbara Michelle ‘Shelly” Young and Lucas Young; two stepgrandchildren, Michelle and Michael (Nikki) Symasek; one great-grandchild; five stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia (Ron) Nauman of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Marion Link of Oelwein; and numerous nieces and nephews..
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Bernice Richards; and two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Link.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Dubuque, Alzheimer's Association or to St. Joseph the Worker parish.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Kathy and Jan, and to Lorraine's caregivers, Norma, Sheila and Kathy.
