Young, Helen M.
Helen M. Young, 84, of Amana, formerly of South Amana, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 22, 2009, at Colonial Manor of Amana following an extended illness. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, with Elder Harold Pitz officiating. Burial will be in South Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Middle Amana Community Church. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be contributed to the American Cancer Society.
She is survived by her husband, William of Amana; three sons, Clyde of High Amana, David and wife Patricia of Joice and Laverne of South Amana; and two grandchildren, Robert Young of Cedar Rapids and Kurtis Young of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Helen Marie Dietrich was born July 22, 1925, in Amana, Iowa, the only daughter of Henry and Marie Franke Dietrich. She graduated from the Amana High School in 1944. Helen was employed at the Amana Woolen Mill before her marriage to William Young on May 3, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. The couple resided in South Amana for 51 years. Besides being a homemaker, Helen was a longtime volunteer for the American Cancer Society and a past board member of the Iowa County unit of the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the American Heritage Society and a lifelong member of the Amana Church Society. Helen enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her family.
