Young, Helen J.
Helen J. Young, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital. Visitation will be on Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday after 9:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, with services at 10 a.m. Graveside services: 3 p.m. Saturday at Locust Cemetery, Locust, Iowa.
Helen was born June 18, 1914, in Spring Grove, Minn., the daughter of Ole and Mame Blegen. She married Lester Philip Young on Dec. 17, 1936, at the Locust Lutheran Church. She was employed at Sun Mart Foods until she retired. She liked to do volunteer work at church, where she had been active with the Home Missionary, Mary Martha Guild and Joy Group.
Survivors include her sons, Leslie (Carolyn) Young of Solon and Mark (Maryjayne) Young of
Boca Raton, Fla.; her grandchildren, Michelle Young of Charles City, Deneen (Paul) Ritter of Charles City, Michael (Mary) Young of Iowa City, Tali Carpentier, Jeremy Young and Jeff Young, all of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jamie (Russ) Skiye of Atkins, Tim (Jessie) Trpkosh of Madison, Wis., Sean Howell of Boca Raton, Fla., and Gwen (Lestan) Quintanilla of Newmarket, N.H.; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a special person in her life, Ginnie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; her parents; a sister, Ruth Matter; and a brother, Orlando Blegen.
Memorials may be made to the Locust Cemetery.
