Yerkes, Tony
Tony Yerkes, 56, died Tuesday, June 25, 2013, from natural causes. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at First Christian Church in Vinton with the Rev. Connie Wacht officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Private burial at a later date in the Brandon Cemetery.
Tony was born Nov. 20, 1956, in Vinton, to Richard and Judy Walker Kearns and was adopted at a young age by Gale Yerkes. He graduated from Washington High School in Vinton in 1975 and worked for many years at DC Taylor Co. In recent years, he worked at PMX Industries. Tony enjoyed playing pool, softball and fishing. He was a fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars and professional wrestling.
He is survived by his grandmother, Rhoda Walker, Vinton; his father, Gale, Yerkes, Vinton; his daughters, Brittany Yerkes, Vinton and Ashley Ann Dvorak, North Liberty; his sons, Jarod Yerkes, Butte, Mont. and Anthony Yerkes, Cedar Rapids; his brothers, Dick (Ny) Yerkes and Ronzo (Glenna) Kearns, both of Vinton; and his sisters, Tina (Harold) Hatfield, Vinton and Andrea Jones, Blairstown.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Paul Walker; mother, Judy; and brother, Scott Yerkes.
A memorial fund has been established.
