Yancey, Robert N. 'Bud'
Robert N. “Bud” Yancey, 84, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Harlan Gillespie officiating. Entombment with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly; along with seven children, Colette Eddy of Cedar Rapids, Stacey (Neal) Johnson of Delhi, David Yancey of Raymond, Robert W. (Teresa) Yancey, Brian (Tabatha) Yancey, Matthew (Kelleen) Yancey of Cedar Rapids, and Samuel (Karla) Yancey of Hiawatha; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Judy of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Doris Yancey; three brothers; and three sisters.
Robert Norris Yancey was born July 16, 1927, in Odessa, Mo., the son of Lawrence and Doris (Ripley) Yancey. He married Beverly Ann Benson on May 27, 1961, in Elgin, Iowa. Robert was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. Robert loved spending time with his family, friends and enjoyed traveling to Texas in the winter months. In his younger years, Robert was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was a welder for Iowa Manufacturing Co. in Cedar Rapids for 42 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, American Legion and the Machinists Union Local 831.
In his last days Robert fought courageously and was able to keep his sense of humor til the end. The Yancey family would like to thank everyone for their support throughout this time.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
