Yakish, Nancy Kay
Nancy Kay Yakish, 73, of Lone Tree, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Pioneer Park in Lone Tree. Mass of the Resurrection for Nancy will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at St. Mary's Church in Lone Tree. Father Kneemiller and Parish Life Administrator Carol Kaalberg will officiate the services. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Colin Yakish, Jacob Sexton, Harrison Miller, Taylor Tucker, Steven Yakish and Philip Yakish. Honorary casket bearers will be Robert Yakish, Caleb Kruse and Harmon Miller.
Following the committal service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation for Nancy will be held Tuesday, April 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree.
Nancy Kay Jarrard was born Feb. 27, 1939, in Lone Tree, Iowa, the daughter of Leo R. and Iva M. (Westaway) Jarrard. On Sept. 15 1955, Nancy was united in marriage to Robert Bernard Yakish at St. Mary's Church in Lone Tree. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Iowa City Moose, Altar and Rosary Society and a past member of the Lone Tree Fireman's Auxillary.
She had worked as a day care provider, kitchen supervisor and cook at the Lone Tree Health Care Center, and Hy-Vee Floral on First Avenue. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, making homemade noodles, crocheting, flowers and going to all her grandchildren's sporting events.
Nancy will be deeply missed by her children, Randy Yakish and his wife, Liz, of Lone Tree, Robert Yakish of Lone Tree, Tom Yakish and his wife, Theresa, of Kalona, Kelly Tucker and her husband, Scott, of Lone Tree, Trisha Sexton and her husband, Rich, of Lone Tree, and Laura Miller and her husband, Scott, of Lone Tree; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her sister, Grace Yakish of Solon.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son, David; parents; stepfather, Harry Jarrard; stepbrother, Bill Jarrard; brothers-in-law Jim and Gerald Yakish; and sister-in-law, Jean Jarrard.
A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Nancy.
