Wulf, Doris Hicks
Doris Hicks Wulf, 91, of rural Grand Mound, passed away early Monday morning, April 29, 2013, at Crestview Nursing and Rehab Center, West Branch. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, and again from 9 until 9:45 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bliedorn. A Service of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church, with Vicar Michelle Kanzaki officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, with a luncheon to follow at the church.
Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church for the benefit of the children's education and music program.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Chris Coppess, Chad Hicks, Troy Hicks and Travis Hicks.
She was born Doris Ruth Dosland to Lars “Lewis” and Anna (Andersen) Dosland in Clinton County, Iowa. Doris graduated from Welton High School in 1938. She married Donald Hicks on Dec. 18, 1939. The couple started farming near Lost Nation and farmed for 73 years in Clinton County. Donald died Jan. 31, 1983. Doris later married Melvin Wulf on Oct. 26, 1991, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bliedorn. He preceded her in death on May 1, 2010.
Survivors include children, Joyce (Jon) Coppess of Iowa City, Charles (Barbara) Hicks of Jerome, Mich., Roger (Colleen) Hicks of Iowa City and Mary Kay Hicks of St. Paul, Minn.; stepchildren, Dale Wulf of Clinton, LeRoy Wulf of Grand Mound and Sharon Steward of Glenarm, Ill.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene Wulf of Maquoketa.
In addition to her husbands, Doris was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Lois Duke, Orville Dosland, Arnold Dosland, Leone Fatchett, Murlin Dosland, Norman Dosland and Gladys Irwin.
