Wright, Roger 'Pete'
Roger “Pete” Wright, 71, of Keota, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with the Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Pete was born Dec. 17, 1940, in Washington, Iowa, to Francis and Elizabeth (Sherbeck) Wright, and graduated from Keota High School in 1959. On Aug. 4, 1963, he married Phyllis Wittman at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion. The couple lived and farmed in the Keota area until moving into Keota in 1984.
Pete worked at River Products until his retirement in 2004. He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Keota; sons, Brad Wright and partner Eric Felty of St. Louis, Mo., and Brian Wright and wife Crystial of Keota; daughter, Paula Wright of Keota; five granddaughters, Erica (Chet) Cave, Leah (Trevor) Hayes, Taylor Wright, Erin Wright and Ellen Wright; two great-grandchildren, Porter and Hadley Cave; five siblings, Marie Mayer of Colorado, Dave Wright of Keota, Marge Van Sickle of Keota, Dick “Richard” Wright of Nevada and Holly Wold of Harpers Ferry; and mother-in-law, Mable Wittman of Keota.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Carroll Wittman.
A memorial fund has been established for the Keota Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
